Madeline's FIRST haircut!

Yes, it is true. These are pictures of Madeline's 1st haircut at a salon yesterday. Since she was a baby I have let her hair grow. She didn't have much hair until age 3, which was still quite thin and short. In the last 2 years it has really grown, but still is thin. I have trimmed her her myself every now and then, but never had it done professionally. I decided it was time to get a haircut. This was harder on me then her. She actually wants her hair short, but that was not an option since her hair is so thin and curly. So we took off almost 2 inches, but it looks like more when dry. It turned out so cute and curly and seemed to have more "bounce" to it also! We are so happy and of course I couldn't miss this moment without my camera. My hairdresser Kristie also has a blog. Be sure to visit her also. She did a fantastic job on Madeline's lovely locks!

This was actually at the end!

All done and happy!

Drying!

Almost done...

Madeline was so excited.

Before the cut. I had to get a before pic.

AFTER--above
BEFORE--below

I just love the new cut and Madeline could not wait to get to school this morning to show her friends. I am leaving tomorrow for Jamaica and I am very excited, except the fact that an old back injury has come to haunt me this week and I can barely move. I am praying for a miracle because the pain is pretty bad and I don't want to ruin a great vacation! No matter what I know it will be fun, I just hope the pain doesn't take away from the trip.
I will be sure to post pictures from my trip when I return.
Until then....happy blogging.

Favorite Foto Friday #42- "Eyes"

With so many pictures of Madeline and her eyes, I posted a few through the years. Madeline's eyes are ice blue and this is one of the first things people notice about her saying, "Look at your beautiful blue eyes". I guess she takes after me as I also have blue eyes, but hers seem to jump right out at you. Here are some fun pictures showing her eyes and those special moments.

Madeline loves to goof around with her meemaw's reading glasses. I love these pics. Too funny..

One of my favorite pics taken while in Florida, age 1 1/2

On a trip to Krispy Kreme!

You can't see how blue they are but I liked this pic showing her eyes behind the Jasmine costume.

My blue eyed girl!!
I hope everyone is staying warm and cozy. Today here in Louisville it is 0 (zero) degrees! I still always think of Rebekah and her family in MN. This week they were at -27 (negative) degrees. Should I feel so lucky to be at Zero...? In 5 days I will be heading to Jamaica with my best friend so I am in count down mode to get out of this cold. I will try and bring some warm weather back to the US for everyone:)

"Mac"~our beloved kitten!

For many years I have wanted to get a pet, but knew the expense and responsibility that came with it. I thought when Madeline got older and when the time was right we would think about what to get. Growing up I had a cat named "Ferris". He was the best cat and very much a people cat. I knew if I got a cat I could not guarantee this cat would be like the beloved Ferris. So after careful thinking I decided it was time to get Madeline & I our own pet. Of course I loved Ferris so much I wanted one just like him so I set out to get an orange tabby cat just like him. I then realized how hard it is to find this color cat. They are just so pretty that I believe that get snatched first. We headed to Metro Animal Services and saw a bunch of cats and kittens. My heart was set on a baby kitten that we could raise ourselves. One cat in the room kept jumping and playing with the other cats, even trying to wake some of the other cats sleeping was an orange and white cat named Pumpkin. sleeping. He was orange, but 5 months old. A little beyond that "baby" kitten stage I was looking for. But is was a cutie. So we left and headed to the Humane Society. When we got there we searched for an orange tabby. They had none. Madeline kept talking about Pumpkin and her little friend Sarah who we brought along kept saying we needed to save Pumpkin and to go get him. I to felt this urge to go and rescue him and to make him our beloved best friend! So that's what we did. We drove straight back to Metro Animal Services (the pound to be honest) and saved this little 5 month old cutie. He had spunk and had a beautiful orange and white coat with a big fluffy tail. (see bottom for continued story)

This was so funny. He was stuck and had to be rescued!

He wants to be right where I am, or Madeline, all the time.

Relaxing as I put up the Christmas tree!

When Madeline or I are on the computer he is right there, usually on top of your hand or in front of the screen.

This is a pic of the day we brought him home. He is so little in this pic.

Her best buddy

Mac loves to play with Madeline every chance he gets. He actually let her push him around. It was too cute.
Mac has now been home with us for 3 months. He is playful, fun and just plain silly. He does test my limits as he still has his front claws. I am in the huge struggle on whether or not to declaw him. My vet is against this and I have read many articles and websites that say it can change their personality, which I would never want to happen. I have read and seen pictures of this procedure and find it cruel. But I also find it cruel what he does to my furniture. This is still up for a decision. I must decide before he turns one year, which is not until June.
As for his name, well like many of my close friends know I was very passionate about the 2008 presidential election and a very strong Republican. So his name comes from 2 places. 1- from John McCain, which they called the "Mac" and 2- from Madeline's middle name, McKenzie. When she was little we used to call her "Maddie Mac". So I felt this was a good fit. This name fits him perfectly!
Its hard to remember what it was like before Mac. He has brought much happiness to mine & Madeline's life. Everyday we get home Madeline rings the doorbell as we walk into the condo to let him know she is home and it's play time. It's so cute. But along with pet ownership come vet bills. He was not the most healthy cat from Metro as we soon found out, with an upper-repository infection and ringworm. After many meds and many dollars later he has fit into our home perfect. We love him and we are happy we rescued this cat into our life!

Favorite Foto Friday #41- COLD! (What we do when it's cold)

I thought I would twist around today's theme and post- What we do when it's COLD. Here in Louisville we have only had a trace adding up all year to an inch of snow. I can't say that for one of my blogging buddies Rebekah,http://jadenalexandra.blogspot.com/ who lives in Minnesota! She gets snow & often! Anyhow, we have had a wonderful holiday and did many fun things. Last weekend we headed to Lexington, KY. to visit my nephews and brother and sister in law where we headed to the Children's Museum. The kids learned all about the body, planet, brain, what makes your body work, bubbles, science. Us adults had just has much fun working the mind puzzles as well. The kids favorite part was the bubble room.

I hope everyone is enjoying the new year. My new year resolution is to be a better blogger and to stick with a diet plan. I am looking forward to my girls trip coming up January 21-25th to JAMAICA. This will be the 1st time I have ever been out of the country. Me and my best friend Michele are heading to an all-inclusive resort to relax & enjoy ourselves. I cannot wait!
Until next time....
